Meet your Massage Therapist

maddie GreenbaumCan you describe how you approach massage with new clients?

The first thing I find out from a new patient is what their physical challenges are. Then I take them through a physical assessment where I check for any muscular as well as skeletal imbalances. I compare what they told me to what their body is telling me. Based on my findings, I personalize the massage to their needs.

Prior to their massage I walk them through my plan so they know what to expect, as well as for their consent. One thing I let my patients know is the importance of establishing good communication during their massage, as it will only enhance their massage experience. It's important to me that the communication is there, whether it's about the pressure I'm using or about the area I'm working on. I always want to make sure my patient is perfectly comfortable with the work I'm doing.

One of the benchmarks of The Balanced Spine is to empower every patient through education. How do you empower, or educate, your clients through massage?

If I'm working on an area that may not make sense for me to work on, I will educate them on the importance of working on a muscle that may not seem related to their issue.

Patients love being educated on how imbalances work.

Overall the experience I look to give is one of wellness as well as educating patients about their body and helping them understand how it works.
